19th Ordinary Sunday

Publié le 8 Août 2020

We are living in a very difficult moment and especially this week was very aggressive for us, with the explosions in Lebanon, and also the accident in India, where 17 people died and more than 150 people were injured. How can we forget the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima! We continue on our way with a heavy history, like the prophet Elijah, trusting in the Lord.

From time to time, the Lord forces us to leave, to go from one place to another, to leave a person or a community. This departure, not voluntary, forced by external events or people, grieves us. The disciples are forced and the prophet will leave his country.  No one is able to answer our questions that are right. Why Lord?

Elijah was in a cave, alone in solitude, waiting for a visit. The disciples were not alone. They were together. Each one of us, alone or with others, will make our own way, which will lead us to the Lord. To do this, we must go out, get out of our fears and worries. Since we are submerged in our daily worries or in problems without solutions, we lock ourselves up and block access to others.  "Come out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for he will pass by. "God is coming to meet us.

He will come to us in all simplicity, without making any noise. We will not find Him in a violent hurricane, nor will He be in the earthquake, not even in the fire.  Elijah met his Lord, in a murmur of a light breeze. Elijah already knew this almighty God, God of the dead and the living, God who brings a kingdom into being and makes an empire disappear.  Today He will see for the first time, a God He did not know. My friends, in every moment of life, in every human encounter, we are asked to seek this God whom we do not know. A God is patiently waiting for us.

When He comes to meet us, He assures us of His peace and His love. "Trust! It's me; don't be afraid anymore. "God did not abandon His disciples alone. Elijah was accompanied by the Lord. This God who loves us, accompanies us, watches over us again, all discreetly. He will certainly come to tell us, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

Today I invite you to the mountain of the Lord, with Jesus in prayer and also with the prophet Elijah, to meet our God. The celebration of the Eucharist is a holy mountain where God awaits us. He is waiting for us in this bread and wine.

My friends, let us go forward together in our faith, trusting in the presence of the Lord that He will come to save us. Let us walk with the Lord towards the mountain and let us pray together. May our celebration of the day be a meeting with the Father who loves us.

The Lord is always speaking to us: "Man of little faith, why did you doubt? "Let us pray together with the Psalmist, "Show us your love, Lord, and give us your salvation. "Amen.
