Scripture:

Luke 17:20-25

20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; 21 nor will they say, `Behold, here it is!' or `There!' for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you." 22 And he said to the disciples, "The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you will not see  it. 23 And they will say to you, `Behold, there!' or `Behold, here!' Do not go, do not follow them. 24 For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of man be in his day. 25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

The contemplation

Let us meditate and contemplate on the Kingdom of GOD with our human intelligence using our earthly kingdom image. Just like any other kingdom where king is the centre, in the Kingdom of God, it is God who is the centre and everything moves according to His will and direction. The system that God wills will be respected by all, without any distinction. Those who desire to be part of this Kingdom, we should learn the system that God has established and adhere to this system.

It is interesting to note that this Kingdom is not something to be desired after our death, rather Jesus is telling us that it is among us, already. Thus for each and every one of us, this Kingdom of God is already begun the day of our baptism, where we have accepted to carry the name of Jesus and decided to adhere to His principles of life. The wonderful system that God has established in this earth is that man by using all that God has created recognise the goodness of God and serve this God with all His might, heart and soul. Since God is in the heart of every human being, man should learn to honour every one and serve the humanity with the same respect that he reserves for the Creator.

Today, if the Pharisees are worried about the Kingdom of God, it is because they are worried about the final and definitive judgement. Jesus is informing us that as children of God, we need not worry about it. He has already put in our hearts the Holy Spirit who guides and animates us. All that we are asked to do is, listen to the Holy Spirit and do everything according to His instructions.
